How a few tiny seeds provide a powerful punch.

An easy add-on to any diet is incorporating the power of Hemp, Flax, and Chia Seeds. These mighty tiny seeds are essential and will provide an anti-inflammatory disease-fighting punch.

They provide heart-healthy, gut-healthy fats, particularly omega-3 fatty acids, and are a great source of plant protein. Hemp seeds are one of the very few plant foods that contain all nine essential amino acids. These mighty seeds provide us with essential vitamins and minerals, including calcium, magnesium, and zinc, which almost everyone lacks.

The Skinny on Omega-3 Fats

You may wonder why omega-3 fatty acids are so critical to your overall health. Omega-3 fats are essential fatty acids, meaning we do not make them and must get them from food. Omega-3’s are needed to produce hormones that regulate inflammation, beneficial for heart health, brain health, skin conditions, arthritis, and other health conditions.

You want to ensure your body has the to absorb and utilize the powerful benefits of these seeds. Become a label reader, and avoid packaged and processed foods with added sugars and inflammatory seed oils, including canola and soybean, as these may inhibit the health benefits you want.

Best Ways to Include Seeds Into Your Daily Diet

Incorporating more of these seeds into your diet can be as easy as sprinkling a teaspoon into your salads, smoothies, yogurt, and soups.

Make pudding with chia seeds using coconut milk.

Flaxseeds - buy flaxseeds whole and grind before use to keep their nutritional value. They quickly go rancid and must be kept in the refrigerator.

Chia and Hemp: Do not go rancid quickly so that you can store them in a cool dark place; I keep them in the refrigerator in a glass jar.

I keep all seeds and nuts in glass containers in the refrigerator and any extra in the freezer.

Sidenote - Flaxseeds contain compounds that provide extra protection against many types of cancer, may provide a reduction in menopause symptoms, and has cholesterol-lowering properties. On the downside, flax contains anti-nutrients and, in excess, may prevent your body from absorbing minerals.

Give them a try, and let me know how you incorporate them into your daily diet.
